I love watching TV series, but usually only if available on DVD. Not a big fan of waiting for the next week's airing. I like being able to watch something sequentially and all at once. So does anyone have some good recommendations.

I currently watch:

Firefly: well of course... I am a member of a Fleet named Serenity Razz

Red Dwarf: Odd British Sci-fi comedy.

Oz: Not sure why I love this show, but so much goes on in each episode, couple the action with the political and social undertones, it is a great series.

House: great show for the sacastic jerk of a doctor making the show funny while scientific, and drama involved. Waiting to get season 4 right now. Hoping it was better than season 3. Too much repitetion in season 3 for my taste.

Buffy: only seen reruns when they were on TV when I had time to spare, got most of the series being mailed to me right now, I loved Joss's Firefly, so I spent some of my bonus this year on his earlier series. Not an Angel fan when I had time to watch it. Issues with spinoffs and not a fan of the main character.

Law and Order: only if I could catch it on TV, but interesting none the less. Also great to see who appeared in the cast, many of which were also stars on Oz. Its a New York actors thing.

I would suggest:

Stargate: Because it's awesome. There is a 1994 movie, then the SG-1 series that came off of it and went for 10 seasons. Halfway through, they introduced another series, Stargate: Atlantis, that is currently on its 5th and final season. To close up the storyline on SG-1, two straight-to-DVD movies were made, both already released. And they are looking to do something similar to Atlantis after season 5 ends. But by the time you finish everything up until then, it will probably be released Smile Everything mentioned so far has been released except for the current season airing of Atlantis. Several Firefly actors made special appearances in Stargate (those who played Inara and Kaylee), and it's a scifi thing Smile And one of the main characters (in the TV show) is formerly known as MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson).

New Amsterdam: As far as I know, this one isn't coming back. But it was amazing, about this man who saved a Native American woman, and she gave him immortality, and now he's a detective, using past lives to solve crimes. Very clever, very witty. Not sure if it's out on DVD or not, but all the episodes are online: http://www.fox.com/fod/player.htm?show=new_ams

Andromeda: If you like scifi, it's quite amusing. Andromeda is a war ship with an AI personality, and it was caught on the outer edge of a blackhole in a time halt (since time slows down the closer you get to a singularity), and 300 years later is "rescued" by some salvage runners (not unlike the crew of Serenity). A bit cheesy at times, but very classic scifi. Lexa Diog, Kevin Sorbo.

Farscape: Another scifi oldie. However, you have to be in the mood for 90s cheesiness, because there is little to no scientific basis for the "science" part of this science fiction. Very funny, very corny, but still intriguing. Ben Browder, Claudia Black.

4400: Interesting series about how people were taken from various points in the past, and all brought back to one spot in one town at the same time, and given extraordinary gifts. Joel Gretsch is one of the main stars

A couple of miniseries:

Taken: Stephen Spielberg did this one, about aliens (of course). It starts with UFOs crashing in the southwest, and goes through 3 generations of 3 different families involved in different ways, and is very very well done. Very thick, intricate plot that is easy to follow but very entertaining. Great acting: Dakota Fanning, Joel Gretsch, several other random star appearances.

10th Kingdom: This one is more fairy-taleish. It's about how Grimm's fairy tales were actually true stories, and we find this magical land several hundred years later, and how "Happily Ever After didn't last as long as we'd hoped." Scott Cohen, Kimberly Williams.

I know you said you don't like waiting for shows to air, but here are a couple I would suggest anyway, since they have a couple of seasons out already that you can watch:

Eureka: Very cute, about this sheriff who got moved to a little hidden town full of geniuses, and he solves crimes and gets in all sorts of trouble and it's really funny Smile Currently airing season 3. Has had some cool guest stars, like Michael Shanks (Stargate) and Lexa Diog (Andromeda)

Heroes: More realistically what would happen if people started having super powers. Has a great variety of characters, from the serious to the comical to the absolutely awesome. Season 3 starts in just a couple of weeks!

If that's not enough, come back later, and I'll have more for you Wink

Well... got my shipment today,

Dresden files: I enjoyed the books, so I figure why not try the series. The characters have the same name, and are based around the books characters, but they have changed a lot of stuff from the books. Not too bad if you take the show on its own, but terrible if you try to relate it to the books.

Heck, I'll turn this into a review thread.

Watched Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles, enjoyed the 1st season a lot. Follows he movies pretty good, but adds its own elements. Our own Summer Glau has a great role that suits her well. If you enjoyed any aspect of the Terminator movies, this is a nice pick. Action, special effects, plus a good story.

Still watching it, but so far so good:
The Henry Rollins Show: I am a fan of Rollins, more for his spoken word than his music, even though I do like many of his songs. Lesser known bands perform a wide variety of music, a lot of political discussions, good interviews, and some good comedy bits. A wide mixture in one show.
